Cleanse Your Body of Toxins and Take Control of Your Health

When it comes to protecting the environment, we know it starts with decreasing the harmful substances that contaminate the land, water, and air. Smelly and dirty, unhealthy and dangerous, toxic pollution is the last thing we want to see piling up on our front lawns.

Yet that is exactly the type of waste that is building up in our bodies on a daily basis.

Now, more than ever before, people are bombarded with such an excess of toxins that our overall health is suffering tremendously. Processed foods, high levels of caffeine and alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and energy, overuse of medications, and stress are just some of the factors contributing to this toxic overload, and the results can be life threatening.

With more than 30 years of experience in naturopathic, chiropractic, traditional Chinese, and functional medicine, Dr. Garry D'Brant has seen what type of adverse effects such diets can have on the human body. "Today we are seeing a dramatic increase in chronic illnesses and degenerative patterns, most surprisingly at very early ages," he says. Reaching epidemic proportions, these diseases include asthma, allergies, diabetes, cancer, and ADHD. But instead of responding to such serious problems by eliminating all the negative substances that are part of their diets and lifestyles, people turn to medications to mask the symptoms and temporarily relieve the pain. "We are the accumulated effects of what is happening in our bodies," Dr. D'Brant continues, "and therefore we need to find more holistic, drug-free, and non-invasive ways to clear out the toxins and return to a healthy state of living." Simply put, we need to detoxify our bodies on a regular basis.

The first step to detoxification is realizing that healthcare is not about relieving the momentary pain, but rather looking at the entire picture and acknowledging the body as a connected, intelligent system. So forget the three-minute visit to your doctor and scribbled prescription, detoxifying means you have to start talking. Dr. D'Brant spends a lot of time with his patients finding out what toxins are present in their lives. “Your goal should not just be to respond to symptoms, but instead it should be to look beneath the surface and work on maintaining a healthy body,” says Dr. D’Brant. “In order to do that, we need to really sit down and discuss the experiences and daily habits that influence how our bodies function.”

Central to this process is the liver, an organ that plays a major role in metabolism and has a multitude of functions, including glycogen storage, red blood cell decomposition, and bile production. Appropriately enough, the liver is also responsible for breaking down toxic substances in the body. When it is inundated with too many toxins, including excess stress, it cannot convert them fast enough, and it is forced to work much harder, eventually decreasing its productivity. Every other organ and metabolic reaction it directly affects will suffer as well, leading to a weakened immune system and making the body more susceptible to disease. There are thousands of different symptoms that could result from a poorly functioning liver, like migraines, shoulder aches, allergies, gastrointestinal diseases, back problems, and psoriasis.

“We must listen with great compassion to what our bodies are telling us,” says Dr. D’Brant. Symptoms are warning signals, alerting us to how the immune system is working. “Our attitude toward health should be expressive, rather than suppressive,” he advises. “So instead of just treating one aspect of the pain, we need to enhance our overall quality of life with a holistic approach like detoxification.”

Under Dr. D’Brant’s supervision, the process of cleansing the major organs and glandular systems is an effective way to reinvigorate the body. Once he knows what toxins are present in the body, he can implement a course of action tailored to each individual that consists of using naturally-derived detoxification agents, altering our diets to include more functional, less stressful foods and minimizing our intake of refined products. Incorporating into our daily routines habits like drinking more water, exercising on a regular basis, and setting time apart to relax will also ensure that we continue to remain healthy enough to counteract any toxins that do enter our bodies.

“Detoxifying is a gentle process that will help you achieve an important balance both internally and externally, and, more than anything,” reminds Dr. D’Brant, “it will put you in control of your health.” Instead of letting symptoms escalate and allowing toxins to build up, we need to proactively work toward cleansing our bodies now. The road to a more energetic, happier, and relaxed you begins with detoxification. As Dr. D’Brant says, “It will add years to your life and life to your years.”

And with a guarantee like that, it’s a prescription worth taking!
